"I clearly heard the Lord say, 'Slow down.'"
Kathy Coates had just gotten her third speeding ticket in a matter of months — and the message wasn't about her driving. Business and efficiency coach Anne Wisdom joins her to talk about "addition by subtraction," why Q3 is the last real window to reset your year, and why the people who say they can't spare 15 minutes are the ones who need it most.

00:00.051 --> 00:02.673
[SPEAKER_02]: I clearly heard the Lord say slow down.
00:03.033 --> 00:14.542
[SPEAKER_02]: My first speeding ticket, I have not had one for over 20 years, but then I remember to my friend Anne talks about slowing down to speed up.
00:15.223 --> 00:18.645
[SPEAKER_01]: I am a business coach, but I also call me like an efficient sea coach.
00:18.825 --> 00:21.788
[SPEAKER_01]: There's seven types of rest, and some of them are active rest.
00:28.587 --> 00:31.249
[SPEAKER_02]: Hello and welcome back to Be Like Changers.
00:31.549 --> 00:45.617
[SPEAKER_02]: I am your host Kathy Coats and we are here at JT Visuals without the eye because they are more than meets the eye and I'm going to put that out right away at the beginning because I have my very good friend.
00:46.158 --> 00:51.161
[SPEAKER_02]: My teammate and my love so very much and a wisdom back with me today.
00:52.041 --> 00:56.743
[SPEAKER_02]: And so I know you're coming back and we changed a line a little bit since we've been here last time.
00:56.863 --> 00:58.904
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know, purple is my favorite color.
00:59.044 --> 01:01.445
[SPEAKER_01]: So I am just all jazzed about the set.
01:01.685 --> 01:07.747
[SPEAKER_01]: And as you know, and you talk about just upgrades and just I talk as a business coach about, continue some improvement.
01:07.787 --> 01:09.008
[SPEAKER_01]: So just give it up for them.
01:09.388 --> 01:23.457
[SPEAKER_02]: I know, JT visuals is always surprising me when I walk through the door, so I love when I come in and they've changed the set up a little bit, or the coloring scheme just a little and I'm like, oh wow, look, I feel so special, so it is so fun, so fun.
01:23.957 --> 01:27.159
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, guys, I am so glad to have Anne back with us today.
01:27.179 --> 01:31.702
[SPEAKER_02]: I had her come in today because we are kind of coming out of summer.
01:32.482 --> 01:35.984
[SPEAKER_02]: And in to fall, like I'm getting, I'm gonna kind of stoked about that.
01:36.084 --> 01:40.767
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm about to, like, you know, I'm, I'm ready for a little bit of this other piece we've weather.
01:40.948 --> 01:47.772
[SPEAKER_02]: And so that kind of led up what I wanted to talk to about today is that seasonal change and going into a new season.
01:47.912 --> 01:51.494
[SPEAKER_02]: Does every season have to be productive to be purposeful?
01:51.594 --> 01:54.837
[SPEAKER_02]: We want to talk about today about slowing down to speed up.
01:55.297 --> 01:58.439
[SPEAKER_02]: And as kind of crazy how I came about this, I had,
01:59.080 --> 02:01.122
[SPEAKER_02]: My first speeding ticket.
02:01.503 --> 02:04.587
[SPEAKER_02]: I have not had one for over 20 years.
02:05.428 --> 02:06.950
[SPEAKER_02]: And so that was no big deal.
02:07.010 --> 02:07.711
[SPEAKER_02]: I got one.
02:07.731 --> 02:10.155
[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, okay, and then a couple months later.
02:10.175 --> 02:11.957
[SPEAKER_02]: I got another one.
02:14.220 --> 02:17.402
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm telling my stuff, I know this is crazy, but it's gonna help you.
02:17.722 --> 02:20.704
[SPEAKER_02]: So I will tell my story if it's going to help you.
02:20.824 --> 02:23.425
[SPEAKER_02]: All right, well, the last one was the doozy.
02:23.905 --> 02:25.967
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't even know where the world it came from.
02:25.987 --> 02:31.650
[SPEAKER_02]: I come off, I just started driving and apparently had just sped off and didn't even know what I was thinking about.
02:32.330 --> 02:47.927
[SPEAKER_02]: Well after that I was like I clearly heard the Lord say slow down slow down and I thought well yeah I mean I am speeding I took it like kind of literal then like okay you need to like get it together girl slow down and pay attention to what's going on
02:48.708 --> 03:12.017
[SPEAKER_02]: But later that day I was scrolling, you know, just my own personal time and I heard a motivational speaker talking about slow down because you need to slow down to speed up and I was like, what okay, and then the next day I met with another friend who said the same thing, but then I remember to my friend and talks about slowing down to speed up so.
03:14.058 --> 03:19.744
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and what does slowing down to speed up actually look like in everyday life?
03:20.411 --> 03:26.175
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, great question, and I am a business coach, but I also call me like an efficient sea coach.
03:26.415 --> 03:33.000
[SPEAKER_01]: So efficiency is my thing, but I do realize that you can't do everything at one time and we talked about that different seasons.
03:33.020 --> 03:40.004
[SPEAKER_01]: And we still are in Q3, and so I do find that as the time to really like people might be hustling.
03:40.165 --> 03:43.647
[SPEAKER_01]: All of a sudden, you're gonna flip the page and it's gonna be December, right?
03:43.707 --> 03:47.149
[SPEAKER_01]: And so now is the time really to slow down to speed up.
03:47.349 --> 03:47.830
[SPEAKER_01]: And so,
03:48.330 --> 03:52.395
[SPEAKER_01]: another catchy phrase that we'll talk about today's addition by subtraction.
03:52.915 --> 04:03.346
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's important to habit stack and create these habits and things of that nature, but also if you just stop doing something that will make more time.
04:03.386 --> 04:08.612
[SPEAKER_01]: If you figure out something maybe you want to give up or just again, trade something.
04:08.912 --> 04:13.733
[SPEAKER_01]: out an example of this would be, and this is going to be maybe silly, but maybe profound.
04:13.773 --> 04:14.173
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see.
04:14.233 --> 04:20.475
[SPEAKER_01]: But for me, when I walk, going my morning walks or whatnot, I don't use a device.
04:20.675 --> 04:23.055
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't, oftentimes I leave it in my car.
04:23.515 --> 04:28.796
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's an example just slowing down because we talked the rhythms of business is what I teach, right?
04:28.836 --> 04:32.457
[SPEAKER_01]: And of month processes, numbers, metrics, things of that nature.
04:32.557 --> 04:35.438
[SPEAKER_01]: So we also talk about rhythms of life, right?
04:35.818 --> 04:36.498
[SPEAKER_01]: The same thing.
04:36.818 --> 04:38.480
[SPEAKER_01]: how are you getting your kids to school?
04:38.520 --> 04:40.322
[SPEAKER_01]: What can you do the night before?
04:40.503 --> 04:44.568
[SPEAKER_01]: How do you create capacity really grocery shopping, right?
04:44.768 --> 04:51.677
[SPEAKER_01]: All those things can add time into the day, because we know that we're not gonna get that 25th hour, and we know that really wouldn't help.
04:51.997 --> 04:52.457
[SPEAKER_01]: anyway.
04:52.857 --> 05:03.240
[SPEAKER_01]: So slowing down, evaluating is really just one of the simple ways to slow down, but addition by subtraction, stop being pausing for me.
05:03.260 --> 05:06.761
[SPEAKER_01]: It was like not another podcast, not another audio book, right?
05:07.061 --> 05:10.222
[SPEAKER_01]: Just inundating yourself with stimuli, right?
05:10.322 --> 05:11.542
[SPEAKER_01]: Just how do you
05:12.282 --> 05:14.083
[SPEAKER_01]: intentionally slow down and pause.
05:14.663 --> 05:17.303
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think that is right on target.
05:17.383 --> 05:21.324
[SPEAKER_02]: I remember back in the day when I had my five kids getting ready to go back to school.
05:21.965 --> 05:30.947
[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, through the summer, you kind of, you know, you are slowing down a little bit, even though you have these activities that you're doing, whether you're going swimming or to the library.
05:31.607 --> 05:41.413
[SPEAKER_02]: fun, you know, museums and things like that vacation, you can get in the hustle and bustle of things that you kind of forget some of those routines that you have during the school year.
05:41.973 --> 05:57.603
[SPEAKER_02]: So one of the first things I always did when we got back into school was I had little cubbies in the closet and stuff and we would like lay out Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Friday and I even have their shoes there because the most frustration thing I had was children as where's your shoes?
05:58.043 --> 06:17.862
[SPEAKER_02]: Where's your shoes like on the shoes like where's your shoes and of course, you know, with my daughter we had a different set of shoes every day, it seemed like because that was just her but that little just that simple little task made the morning goes so much smoother and the times that we would forget to get it it would be more chaos.
06:17.902 --> 06:18.202
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
06:18.322 --> 06:28.367
[SPEAKER_02]: And so there's so many little things that we don't even think about start with the obvious start with the simple start with the low hanging fruit and if you can even change
06:28.932 --> 06:32.153
[SPEAKER_01]: three habits that can save you five minutes of peace.
06:32.173 --> 06:33.513
[SPEAKER_01]: That's 15 minutes, right?
06:33.593 --> 06:36.733
[SPEAKER_01]: So again, that's when you start really feeling that freedom.
06:36.913 --> 06:38.234
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yes, and you do.
06:38.354 --> 06:43.875
[SPEAKER_02]: And so that was just a reminder, you know, that sometimes slowing down really helps us.
06:43.995 --> 06:49.236
[SPEAKER_02]: And I know within my life right now, it just seems like I was always being pulled one way or the other or the other.
06:49.896 --> 06:55.397
[SPEAKER_02]: And it was like, you know, you need to slow down because my quiet time doesn't feel like
06:56.117 --> 07:00.119
[SPEAKER_02]: quiet time anymore like like he was saying in the morning, you know, I do that too.
07:00.199 --> 07:02.099
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't pick up my device right away.
07:02.240 --> 07:02.480
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
07:02.600 --> 07:03.800
[SPEAKER_02]: Because the second I pick it up.
07:03.920 --> 07:06.421
[SPEAKER_02]: I know somebody's going to need my attention.
07:06.821 --> 07:08.202
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what's going to happen.
07:08.802 --> 07:15.545
[SPEAKER_02]: And so whether it be that morning walk or, you know, my devotion time in the morning, I'm still good about not picking it up.
07:15.905 --> 07:35.212
[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm not real good about being still and quiet that's hard for me just because I guess probably my character I'm always on the go or move and so for me finding time just to be still and that is hard when you have kids and you know I have Gabriel and so it always if he wakes up and he's off his routine.
07:35.692 --> 07:47.486
[SPEAKER_02]: Then I don't get that time in the morning and so I found myself falling back into bad habits and then taking at my phone because he was up and the next thing you know, and that's why I needed that reminder.
07:47.566 --> 07:48.788
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, like slow down.
07:48.808 --> 07:52.071
[SPEAKER_02]: Yep, and so I think you know this is your reminder
07:52.892 --> 07:53.793
[SPEAKER_02]: slow down.
07:53.833 --> 07:57.317
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's okay, you know, to have to go back and restart.
07:57.377 --> 08:02.082
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, those happens again because it's easily easily taken out.
08:02.463 --> 08:05.866
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's really transitioning from the subconscious to the conscious.
08:05.906 --> 08:06.487
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what I mean.
08:07.387 --> 08:11.748
[SPEAKER_01]: a habit for me is and people will say 40 days to make a habit, things of that nature.
08:12.148 --> 08:14.449
[SPEAKER_01]: But like you said, I say, start in consistent.
08:14.849 --> 08:15.930
[SPEAKER_01]: That's how you do it, right?
08:15.950 --> 08:16.290
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
08:16.310 --> 08:17.470
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't play the whole Monday game.
08:17.510 --> 08:18.270
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll start next Monday.
08:18.290 --> 08:22.071
[SPEAKER_01]: Start back up when you notice the behavior, right?
08:22.411 --> 08:23.732
[SPEAKER_01]: And just get back on it.
08:23.812 --> 08:24.132
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean,
08:24.832 --> 08:27.916
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think we just between our in our minds, right?
08:27.937 --> 08:29.058
[SPEAKER_01]: We're just so hard on ourselves.
08:29.258 --> 08:32.443
[SPEAKER_01]: So nobody else knows that you stopped for two days or what not.
08:32.783 --> 08:34.025
[SPEAKER_01]: And nobody's tallying.
08:34.105 --> 08:35.687
[SPEAKER_01]: So just go ahead and start back up.
08:36.368 --> 08:38.772
[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, eventually you'll you'll get there.
08:39.152 --> 08:39.713
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
08:40.093 --> 08:44.535
[SPEAKER_02]: exactly and I think another reminder that you need is that you're not behind.
08:44.875 --> 08:46.616
[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's being a different season.
08:47.296 --> 08:50.237
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I always find it's funny how when season has changed.
08:50.358 --> 08:53.499
[SPEAKER_02]: I find that really things change in my life too.
08:53.779 --> 09:02.443
[SPEAKER_02]: And in this season, usually the end of third quarter, right about September going into October, I find this all of a sudden.
09:03.363 --> 09:25.687
[SPEAKER_02]: It's over halfway the year like the years almost half over like what just happened you know and all those things that you plan for at the beginning you're looking back at like okay I got this done I got that in way I should be here and this should have already been done and you start thinking you're behind and it can almost create a sense of panic if you're not careful and then.
09:26.227 --> 09:28.768
[SPEAKER_02]: I feel that that's when that starts happening.
09:28.808 --> 09:33.031
[SPEAKER_02]: You start speeding up thinking, if I just push it all in, it'll get done.
09:33.071 --> 09:39.654
[SPEAKER_02]: When really, sometimes slowing it down actually helps you coast in and get more done.
09:39.734 --> 09:44.817
[SPEAKER_01]: We overestimate what we can get done in a day and underestimate what you can get done in a year.
09:44.877 --> 09:47.338
[SPEAKER_01]: But Q3 is the time to slow down.
09:47.938 --> 09:51.739
[SPEAKER_01]: This is the last chance that you have to really evaluate those things.
09:52.139 --> 09:54.420
[SPEAKER_01]: Do I really need to get that gold done?
09:54.520 --> 09:57.461
[SPEAKER_01]: Can that just postpone to next year?
09:57.601 --> 09:59.381
[SPEAKER_01]: Next year will be here before you know it.
10:00.122 --> 10:05.543
[SPEAKER_01]: And get that on your road map to really start planning for Q4.
10:06.043 --> 10:08.464
[SPEAKER_01]: And for, I hate to say it next year.
10:08.484 --> 10:09.924
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my goodness.
10:10.365 --> 10:11.865
[SPEAKER_02]: She did not just say it already.
10:12.165 --> 10:12.645
[SPEAKER_02]: All ready.
10:12.665 --> 10:15.226
[SPEAKER_01]: Because if you're planning a 90 days out, we're planning
10:15.877 --> 10:16.277
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
10:16.417 --> 10:16.658
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
10:16.678 --> 10:17.478
[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, oh, my goodness.
10:17.518 --> 10:18.479
[SPEAKER_01]: It's budget season.
10:18.559 --> 10:20.600
[SPEAKER_01]: This is really the last time.
10:21.201 --> 10:31.348
[SPEAKER_01]: The last feasible time to really re align set your priorities set your goals for the end of the year, knowing that we're going into that busy holiday season and really pun to anything.
10:31.668 --> 10:32.448
[SPEAKER_01]: you can't get done.
10:32.488 --> 10:33.129
[SPEAKER_01]: I can't get done.
10:33.269 --> 10:34.189
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
10:34.849 --> 10:35.230
[SPEAKER_02]: I know.
10:35.330 --> 10:38.471
[SPEAKER_02]: So that kind of brings us into that addition and subtracting.
10:38.611 --> 10:38.691
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
10:38.771 --> 10:39.251
[SPEAKER_02]: You know.
10:39.371 --> 10:45.974
[SPEAKER_02]: So what is one thing listeners could subtract right now to create room for what matters?
10:46.154 --> 10:51.497
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we set it and I'm proud of both of us because we don't have our devices up there.
10:51.877 --> 10:58.243
[SPEAKER_01]: but really just on your app, you can go to settings and look how much phone usage you have every day.
10:58.703 --> 11:00.585
[SPEAKER_01]: And so, I don't know, set a family goal.
11:00.825 --> 11:02.266
[SPEAKER_01]: Just set a goal, right?
11:02.627 --> 11:04.028
[SPEAKER_01]: During dinner time, we put them away.
11:04.148 --> 11:07.711
[SPEAKER_01]: Is it feasible that you put it on, do not disturb, turn it off?
11:07.872 --> 11:10.574
[SPEAKER_01]: Can you give yourself 30 minutes in the morning?
11:10.794 --> 11:12.596
[SPEAKER_01]: Can you give yourself five minutes in the morning?
11:12.656 --> 11:13.777
[SPEAKER_01]: Can you go outside?
11:14.441 --> 11:19.185
[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, just take a breath before you get busy on something.
11:19.445 --> 11:21.587
[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's very important for our children too.
11:21.727 --> 11:25.851
[SPEAKER_02]: First of all, they watch us, so if they see us, do this.
11:26.211 --> 11:31.836
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if they see us do it, because it's really hard if you're setting that goal for your children, but they don't see you do it.
11:31.876 --> 11:32.036
[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
11:32.216 --> 11:34.296
[SPEAKER_02]: And they're wondering, why do I got to put my phone down?
11:34.357 --> 11:35.617
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, it's all the time.
11:35.637 --> 11:45.419
[SPEAKER_02]: The timing system, all the time, but when they see us, set it down, that is so powerful, because it makes a statement to why it's a similar intention.
11:45.619 --> 11:49.640
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know, and that addition and subtractions, you know.
11:49.800 --> 11:57.102
[SPEAKER_01]: So when I think just to extrapolate on that, which we kind of touched on, but what are you doing during your day, during your night, you know?
11:57.362 --> 11:59.982
[SPEAKER_01]: And again, just like me, giving up podcasts, right?
12:00.002 --> 12:01.483
[SPEAKER_01]: Like just for maybe a season of time,
12:02.323 --> 12:08.407
[SPEAKER_01]: feeding myself so much information that I wasn't able to process what I was taking in and, you know, things of that nature.
12:08.507 --> 12:11.429
[SPEAKER_01]: So, but again, that might be under phone usage as well.
12:12.289 --> 12:14.150
[SPEAKER_01]: Car time, what are you listening to the car?
12:14.270 --> 12:15.972
[SPEAKER_01]: Can you turn the radio off in the car?
12:16.952 --> 12:18.033
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, things of that nature.
12:18.053 --> 12:21.395
[SPEAKER_01]: That's that's the behavior that you can quit easily.
12:21.695 --> 12:22.055
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yes.
12:22.115 --> 12:29.119
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, just like you said, just being able to, you know, figure out those things like where are those gaps that we could feed?
12:29.199 --> 12:30.579
[SPEAKER_02]: What can we take away?
12:30.599 --> 12:30.839
[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
12:31.199 --> 12:35.321
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, to make life more productive, make, you know, in that's even thoughts.
12:35.461 --> 12:35.722
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
12:35.962 --> 12:41.904
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know, the things that we think make sure you're feeding yourself positive because there's so much negative in the world.
12:41.964 --> 12:46.507
[SPEAKER_02]: And there's so much going on whether that be in the political realm, just life is hard.
12:46.567 --> 12:47.567
[SPEAKER_02]: Life is hard.
12:47.647 --> 12:49.548
[SPEAKER_02]: You start getting yourself down because you go ahead and see the grass.
12:50.448 --> 12:57.932
[SPEAKER_02]: Every day is getting up early now because kids are back in school, I mean, that's that's hard enough hard change It's like, oh my gosh.
12:58.252 --> 12:59.413
[SPEAKER_02]: I got to get this all down.
12:59.453 --> 13:09.057
[SPEAKER_02]: So feed yourself a positive and get those people around you that speak good and positive things because you're going to find that that uplift your day as well Absolutely as well.
13:09.117 --> 13:10.118
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, focus on the good
13:10.573 --> 13:15.395
[SPEAKER_02]: If someone says, I can't slow down because everything will fall apart.
13:16.436 --> 13:20.517
[SPEAKER_02]: Is that sometimes a sign they need a better system?
13:20.577 --> 13:30.282
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it's one of those things where it's like the person that says they can't spare 15 minutes to slow down and you know, breathe are the people that need it the most.
13:30.422 --> 13:34.043
[SPEAKER_01]: So absolutely, I mean, nobody should feel alone.
13:34.284 --> 13:36.665
[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody should feel just stressed out.
13:37.745 --> 13:53.227
[SPEAKER_01]: We talk about stress and we talk about rest and just all the different types of rest and so yes those are the people that needed the most ask for help and it's like juggling right so you have maybe family work.
13:54.027 --> 13:57.450
[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, just anything else, all your other commitments, right?
13:57.510 --> 13:58.771
[SPEAKER_01]: And so it's like juggling.
13:58.851 --> 14:03.154
[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're juggling and maybe family, you don't get to family today, right?
14:03.274 --> 14:06.016
[SPEAKER_01]: I've had a busy work day, I had an evening commitment.
14:06.316 --> 14:10.279
[SPEAKER_01]: Then make sure that next day you're given love to your family, right?
14:10.319 --> 14:13.461
[SPEAKER_01]: And so again, just not dropping all the balls at one time.
14:13.622 --> 14:15.543
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and rest as it always leave.
14:15.743 --> 14:17.304
[SPEAKER_01]: We like this one, don't we?
14:17.344 --> 14:19.766
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it's like this, I know, I'm always the one who
14:20.747 --> 14:25.692
[SPEAKER_01]: I wish I could recite them, but there are seven types of rest and some of them are active rest.
14:25.772 --> 14:33.120
[SPEAKER_01]: And so if you are in a vocation that is using your body all day, you probably want to go home and use your mind.
14:33.240 --> 14:37.764
[SPEAKER_01]: Like read a book, play a mind simulation game, you know, something of that nature.
14:38.325 --> 14:40.307
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're sitting behind a computer all day,
14:40.667 --> 14:42.690
[SPEAKER_01]: we encourage you to get out and move.
14:42.830 --> 14:43.832
[SPEAKER_01]: Move your body, right?
14:43.892 --> 14:50.842
[SPEAKER_01]: And so again, think about a break, being stepping away from the activity and experiencing a positive emotion.
14:51.423 --> 14:55.289
[SPEAKER_01]: So a lot of times when I was working at home and I did the dishes, I was like, that's a break.
14:55.629 --> 14:55.789
[SPEAKER_02]: Nope.
14:55.909 --> 14:56.630
[SPEAKER_01]: That's not a break.
14:56.970 --> 14:58.711
[SPEAKER_01]: Didn't experience any positive emotion.
14:58.731 --> 15:01.492
[SPEAKER_01]: It felt good to clean the kitchen, but that's not really a break.
15:01.552 --> 15:05.375
[SPEAKER_01]: So we want people to step away and experience a positive emotion.
15:05.415 --> 15:10.518
[SPEAKER_01]: Text a friend, call somebody, Google, add some pictures that you took, you know, whatever it is.
15:10.658 --> 15:13.459
[SPEAKER_01]: But again, that comes back to just feeding yourself with positivity.
15:13.819 --> 15:14.220
[SPEAKER_02]: It was.
15:14.280 --> 15:16.181
[SPEAKER_02]: And this is one thing I really did learn from you.
15:16.221 --> 15:23.505
[SPEAKER_02]: You've taught me many things over the time, and you know, but one thing I didn't realize was all the different types of rest.
15:23.585 --> 15:24.626
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I heard of a few.
15:25.313 --> 15:31.376
[SPEAKER_02]: But when I really had got down to, you know, I, you kind of listen to that there's different ways of rest.
15:31.897 --> 15:41.762
[SPEAKER_02]: But when you really look at, oh, if I'm sitting, that means I need to move or, you know, if I'm always talking, then I need to be quiet.
15:42.043 --> 15:52.529
[SPEAKER_02]: And that was hard for me because I mean, I'm a, I'm a go-getter, I talk a lot, you know, but I started realizing, you know, yes, I am an extrovert, but I have a point that I need to reset to.
15:53.589 --> 15:59.073
[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's important to understand whatever you're doing, it's the flip side of things that we need.
15:59.113 --> 16:05.838
[SPEAKER_02]: Like go get a massage maybe, you know, even set out back with a cup of coffee and look as a bird.
16:05.978 --> 16:10.361
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, like things just slow yourself down, feed yourself what you're needing.
16:10.421 --> 16:13.543
[SPEAKER_02]: But if you're not moving a lot, like if you're in the office a lot,
16:13.883 --> 16:22.626
[SPEAKER_02]: then you need to get out there, you know, but if you're kids, when they get home, go shoot some basketball with them or, you know, go for a walk, you know, those kinds of things help too.
16:22.766 --> 16:30.309
[SPEAKER_02]: And when I really started feeding the other side is when I really felt my energy come back, like I felt full, like very full.
16:30.369 --> 16:32.690
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's that's really super important.
16:32.710 --> 16:36.511
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's interesting that we're talking about that because that almost feeds into Gabriel Gibbs.
16:36.631 --> 16:41.373
[SPEAKER_01]: And just when you were talking about that, it just kind of feels like that is a channel
16:42.573 --> 16:42.953
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
16:43.314 --> 16:49.560
[SPEAKER_01]: And so even when you started doing those activities, I can see you really blooming.
16:49.580 --> 16:51.021
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
16:51.161 --> 17:03.013
[SPEAKER_02]: It was important because at that point in time, it was a shift at looking at, oh my goodness, I have to stop what I'm doing and go give Gabriel what he needs versus
17:04.149 --> 17:11.030
[SPEAKER_02]: Stopping, not even stopping our business because now our stuff aligns, but seeing what his true purpose was.
17:11.571 --> 17:22.773
[SPEAKER_02]: Because I knew what my purpose in life was and part of it was being his caregiver, part of it was being there with him, his daily life and he was bored and he wanted to go do things.
17:22.793 --> 17:25.993
[SPEAKER_02]: So we would go watch the car, you know, every day.
17:26.133 --> 17:27.554
[SPEAKER_02]: Like he loves to watch the car guys.
17:27.594 --> 17:29.434
[SPEAKER_02]: Like this is thing, every day we do it.
17:29.454 --> 17:33.375
[SPEAKER_02]: And we still do those things, don't get me wrong, but that wasn't his purpose.
17:33.775 --> 17:38.256
[SPEAKER_02]: he liked to be outside so we go to the park and that was slowing me down too.
17:38.416 --> 17:40.877
[SPEAKER_02]: So that was feeding me as well at the same time.
17:41.277 --> 17:46.358
[SPEAKER_02]: But I still was missing it and the part was that he wanted to give.
17:47.138 --> 17:53.319
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's when it was so sweet to see how God aligns all things and that's how we work together.
17:53.339 --> 17:56.420
[SPEAKER_02]: Like even our friendship has come together and working together.
17:57.080 --> 18:16.458
[SPEAKER_02]: we align in certain spots and then we push each other in different ways as well and so now Gabriel actually pushes me because you know he's like I want to be out there and I want to give you know he does like to you know be out there handing gifts to people or going of course he loves trying their food yes
18:20.019 --> 18:38.705
[SPEAKER_01]: And I just adore Gabriel and we even did a give back and he was instrumental in helping us with the same which is for Ronald McDonald House and so I just appreciate because I have a spirit of give back as well and volunteerism and so just partnering with that we've got one coming up we're going to go to the all for moms thrift store.
18:38.826 --> 18:39.426
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
18:39.606 --> 18:42.127
[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to start the ice cream.
18:42.387 --> 18:42.947
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
18:43.367 --> 18:45.209
[SPEAKER_02]: ice cream session because he likes ice cream.
18:45.229 --> 18:48.872
[SPEAKER_02]: So we've decided to go around and shout out local ice cream spots.
18:48.892 --> 18:59.042
[SPEAKER_02]: So in fact, if you are on YouTube, go ahead and like below comment below where your favorite ice cream shot is, we might have to go because that will be going for a while.
18:59.102 --> 19:00.543
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, we're going to be doing that.
19:00.663 --> 19:01.885
[SPEAKER_02]: And have some good giveaways.
19:01.905 --> 19:04.007
[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to do Gable's going to do some giveaways.
19:04.027 --> 19:04.247
[SPEAKER_02]: So you
19:04.687 --> 19:25.725
[SPEAKER_01]: might want to give some ice cream like yeah that'd be fun maybe fun but that all is part of rest I think if we're just behind the computer emailing talking to people and again I was in a season of just you know I got a new car wasn't necessarily planned for that a couple of things happened and so one day I was like I need to go get back.
19:26.525 --> 19:38.271
[SPEAKER_01]: and just not having it as self-focused but being focused on other people fills my cup and I think again that is part of rest because when you're doing that you are just not thinking about yourself and honestly it's a really great place to be.
19:38.311 --> 19:42.053
[SPEAKER_01]: That's so true because the rest could be productive when it prepares you for your purpose.
19:42.073 --> 19:42.453
[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
19:42.733 --> 19:43.293
[SPEAKER_02]: You're really keen.
19:43.313 --> 19:43.653
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
19:43.753 --> 19:44.194
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
19:44.274 --> 19:44.394
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
19:44.454 --> 19:44.954
[SPEAKER_02]: It's true.
19:45.014 --> 19:45.874
[SPEAKER_02]: That's awesome.
19:45.914 --> 19:46.635
[SPEAKER_02]: That's awesome.
19:47.175 --> 19:49.476
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we kind of have a challenge for you guys.
19:49.737 --> 19:51.858
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I saw that, so let's do a challenge this time.
19:51.878 --> 19:53.979
[SPEAKER_02]: I do different things sometimes with guests or on.
19:54.299 --> 19:56.220
[SPEAKER_02]: But this time we're going to challenge you.
19:56.240 --> 19:57.881
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to put my glasses on side.
19:57.901 --> 20:05.726
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, even before the challenge, you know, one thing that I did want to say as well is our review preview is a technique that we use a lot.
20:05.786 --> 20:11.389
[SPEAKER_01]: And we even have a B-life changers journal where it has some guided prompts that you can use.
20:12.189 --> 20:14.711
[SPEAKER_01]: But really just setting if you're new to this,
20:15.291 --> 20:19.112
[SPEAKER_01]: Setting five minutes aside to even do that little self-reflection.
20:19.292 --> 20:26.835
[SPEAKER_01]: What went great in your day, what's on your mind for tomorrow, things of that nature, and really think about what you want to get accomplished tomorrow.
20:26.855 --> 20:29.675
[SPEAKER_01]: But I know you're going to talk more in a big season type.
20:29.935 --> 20:31.896
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but that is a daily challenge.
20:31.996 --> 20:33.517
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and what you can get started.
20:33.537 --> 20:34.937
[SPEAKER_02]: You can purchase those.
20:35.057 --> 20:35.377
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
20:35.397 --> 20:40.219
[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll make sure you know how to do that as well because it does help to be able to reflect every single day.
20:40.539 --> 20:42.939
[SPEAKER_01]: You don't think you're making progress on a daily basis.
20:45.280 --> 20:45.841
[SPEAKER_01]: You'll see it.
20:46.181 --> 20:55.612
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so the live change or challenge is this is it this is we're going to like the week to identify excited one thing is we want you to do is pause That's going to be the challenge.
20:55.632 --> 21:04.662
[SPEAKER_02]: We want you to pause and then simplify and Serve and so I think that that is something that's very powerful.
21:04.702 --> 21:05.824
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, we want you to pause
21:06.324 --> 21:08.545
[SPEAKER_02]: simplify and find a place to serve.
21:08.625 --> 21:27.036
[SPEAKER_02]: And there's so many places here in Kansas City where you can serve like the starfish project their amazing all for moms I mean look at this keep going on and on and on you know there are so many places you can give back Yep, we're getting ready to go in that season of giving and so let us know though.
21:27.056 --> 21:28.897
[SPEAKER_02]: I can the comments below send me
21:29.377 --> 21:36.651
[SPEAKER_02]: a DM, or you know, message me, let me know what this did for you, but that's our challenge for you till the next time.
21:36.811 --> 21:41.620
[SPEAKER_02]: Remember, you don't have to change the whole world just start with one life in front of you.
21:41.800 --> 21:44.525
[SPEAKER_02]: Until next time, go be a life changer.
