02:10.145 --> 02:10.566
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.

02:10.726 --> 02:14.031
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, so we're going to get dig deep really right away.

02:14.051 --> 02:16.334
[SPEAKER_00]: I would love for you to tell your story.

02:16.414 --> 02:19.078
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I love you so much.

02:19.118 --> 02:22.122
[SPEAKER_00]: And when you started telling me about like business.

02:22.102 --> 02:31.821
[SPEAKER_00]: and as I look up to you, you know, like being a business woman and I love how you go around it and you're just you're the most encouraging person.

02:31.881 --> 02:34.165
[SPEAKER_00]: Like we like we met.

02:34.286 --> 02:34.987
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm actually crying.

02:35.027 --> 02:35.909
[SPEAKER_01]: I just fixed my name.

02:35.929 --> 02:38.153
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I guess I should make it up.

02:38.133 --> 02:42.079
[SPEAKER_00]: But what was it like we met what we just had like three and a half years ago?

02:42.099 --> 02:43.081
[SPEAKER_01]: About three and a half years ago.

02:43.101 --> 02:49.552
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, at the ACA, right, we were networking and we met and then we're on a business development group together.

02:49.652 --> 02:49.892
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.

02:50.072 --> 02:56.563
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's where we really got to know each other and this lady right here always had my back.

02:56.543 --> 03:08.138
[SPEAKER_01]: Always encourage me and was always there like you know you actually remind me of a family member So immediately I want a family member that I actually like oh Okay, well, that's good.

03:08.438 --> 03:09.319
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's watch that.

03:09.339 --> 03:24.719
[SPEAKER_01]: We know we got the family members to love and you have to love But this one I like as a friend and so you are a joy to be around and I know that you're encouraging as well So when you find those people right is very easy to connect with them and move forward with them in anything they do So thank you for being you too.

03:25.259 --> 03:25.740
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh

03:25.720 --> 03:26.441
[SPEAKER_00]: You're welcome.

03:26.821 --> 03:27.222
[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.

03:27.282 --> 03:43.804
[SPEAKER_00]: I just love what you love hanging out and we don't get to do it enough though That's because we're both movers and shakers and always on the run So I'm glad you had took some time to come see me today So tell me just a little bit about like when I maybe your first business adventure Let's start there.

03:43.824 --> 03:45.166
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you don't want to go that far back.

03:45.346 --> 03:46.648
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I'm in my

03:46.628 --> 03:54.820
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, no, we won't go that far because that was back when I was probably 15, actually if you asked my mom, it was when, and she's no longer with us, but it was when I was eight.

03:55.220 --> 03:55.360
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

03:55.380 --> 03:58.485
[SPEAKER_01]: But I've always had the entrepreneurial spirit.

03:58.505 --> 04:01.629
[SPEAKER_01]: So I already knew that at the very beginning, my mom was just the same way.

04:01.689 --> 04:04.213
[SPEAKER_01]: So it was very easy to imitate what she was doing.

04:04.693 --> 04:07.978
[SPEAKER_01]: So she was also, she was a single mom of three dot daughters growing up.

04:07.958 --> 04:08.900
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.

04:09.301 --> 04:19.083
[SPEAKER_01]: And I didn't know it until I was a single model of two, probably in my early 20s, that she actually had a lot going on as well, more so than I thought.

04:19.925 --> 04:27.402
[SPEAKER_01]: And she was always hustling to make things happen and getting the family to be taken care of and all that in the same breath.

04:27.382 --> 04:40.759
[SPEAKER_01]: So, she taught me without me knowing that I was being taught that you can spread yourself a little bit thin, but then you can also get it back in rewards of giving and being available for other people and it refreshes you.

04:41.060 --> 04:44.003
[SPEAKER_01]: So, that's a huge thing that I probably took away from her.

04:44.824 --> 04:49.170
[SPEAKER_01]: My first business ventures probably for entrepreneur would have been

04:49.150 --> 04:52.113
[SPEAKER_01]: more of the network marketing aspect.

04:52.694 --> 04:56.477
[SPEAKER_01]: I've always had a job in like hospitality or customer service.

04:57.238 --> 05:08.629
[SPEAKER_01]: I was in tourism for about 17 years and then, you know, with that, that was promoting areas like when the legends was just starting to break ground and all that was going on.

05:08.650 --> 05:09.851
[SPEAKER_01]: So that was an exciting time.

05:10.491 --> 05:19.140
[SPEAKER_01]: But then I also had the Entrepreneur Part which was, you know, you have your 40 hour work

05:19.120 --> 05:23.927
[SPEAKER_01]: the other 30 hours that you probably make into a business as well.

05:24.047 --> 05:26.190
[SPEAKER_01]: So you're constantly working even when you're sleeping.

05:26.290 --> 05:28.593
[SPEAKER_01]: So at that point, that's when you're making the money while you're sleeping.

05:28.653 --> 05:31.017
[SPEAKER_01]: And residual incomes come into play.

05:31.137 --> 05:36.404
[SPEAKER_01]: And as a single mom, you had to have two to three, maybe even four different incomes at one time.

05:36.624 --> 05:36.865
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.

05:37.446 --> 05:43.474
[SPEAKER_01]: And living in Johnson County, of course, you have to have a little bit more income to take care of those.

05:43.454 --> 05:47.398
[SPEAKER_01]: everyday expenses, you know, the shelter, the food, the warmth, that kind of thing.

05:48.018 --> 05:56.627
[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I wish I could say that I had a normal child support check that came in and take care of those things I didn't, so I had to get creative.

05:57.688 --> 06:04.874
[SPEAKER_01]: And I just found a lot of businesses that if I liked them and I would do them for free, then I would pick them up and run with them and actually you pay to do it.

06:05.495 --> 06:08.118
[SPEAKER_01]: So, that's how that all started out.

06:08.918 --> 06:10.660
[SPEAKER_01]: So, talking about single

06:10.640 --> 06:37.997
[SPEAKER_01]: Mom's situation my mom was a single mom like I said before I was a single mom and so I didn't know it at the time But when I was little when I was probably about seven eight years old I had went to Johnson County Christmas bureau when you're not supposed to usually you have the kids at home We only have kids in exception if you can't find a babysitter or you have it a point Many can't make it happen and so I had went as a young kid to the JCCB holiday shop

06:37.977 --> 06:41.285
[SPEAKER_01]: and I got to pick up my my very own first brand new coat.

06:41.766 --> 06:47.059
[SPEAKER_01]: Now as a youngest daughter of three girls, you know how many hammy downs I probably had.

06:47.079 --> 06:47.540
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah.

06:47.560 --> 06:49.023
[SPEAKER_01]: In that eight years law.

06:49.043 --> 06:49.665
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, yes.

06:49.705 --> 06:52.411
[SPEAKER_01]: So I every year I'd never had my own brand new coat.

06:52.772 --> 06:53.514
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh wow.

06:53.935 --> 06:53.995
[SPEAKER_01]: So.

06:53.975 --> 06:58.242
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I didn't know that at the time, that's what JCCB was, the Johnson County Christmas Bureau.

06:58.542 --> 07:07.236
[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know that I went to the shop that basically my mom found out about and was given items like presents and gifts and coats and things like that.

07:07.336 --> 07:14.127
[SPEAKER_01]: So it wasn't until I was a single mom in a similar situation where I had received

07:14.107 --> 07:24.936
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, cash systems or food stamps that year, and they invite you from that, the people that are actually receiving those types of resources throughout the year get invited to the shop.

07:26.077 --> 07:29.440
[SPEAKER_01]: And those are people that are about 150% below the poverty level.

07:29.881 --> 07:30.361
[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.

07:30.461 --> 07:34.685
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so it's not just people that are low income, but it's extreme.

07:34.785 --> 07:44.113
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're barely making it there.

07:44.093 --> 07:53.174
[SPEAKER_01]: Get your appointment as soon as possible and do not cancel it, get there, no matter what, and I'm like, okay, so I didn't know what it was, and then I realized very quickly what it was.

07:53.194 --> 07:58.847
[SPEAKER_01]: They literally take you through shopping with dignity and you get to pick what you want for your family.

07:59.048 --> 07:59.689
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh wow.

07:59.669 --> 08:01.614
[SPEAKER_01]: and you're not just given stuff.

08:01.635 --> 08:06.669
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's those places that actually just collect and that's what they do and they don't have a big resource to have you shop.

08:07.351 --> 08:14.691
[SPEAKER_01]: But we usually with Johnson County Christmas Bureau, which by the way I didn't mention this, but I am the president of Johnson County Christmas Bureau this year.

08:14.671 --> 08:35.008
[SPEAKER_01]: back in the day you know 20 some years ago 25 years ago I was one of those clients that would walk through the door and had to humble myself and say you know what thank you so much I'm grateful and go shop for my family and right when you did that you literally got a whole car load of Christmas loaded up in your car at the end of your your appointment.

08:34.988 --> 08:38.272
[SPEAKER_01]: So you go shop for toys, and these are all new items.

08:38.873 --> 08:51.108
[SPEAKER_01]: So toys, clothing, dental, toothbrush, laundry surgeon, personal care items, of course food, maybe about four or five days worth of food during that holiday break.

08:51.949 --> 08:52.770
[SPEAKER_01]: That was always needed.

08:52.950 --> 08:56.254
[SPEAKER_01]: And then things like books and holiday decor and

08:56.234 --> 09:07.732
[SPEAKER_01]: hats and gloves, things that you still need, of course, for that holiday time, but, you know, as a single mom spending $50 on a coat and hats and gloves could be breaking the bank at that point.

09:07.832 --> 09:09.074
[SPEAKER_01]: So I was very grateful.

09:09.815 --> 09:16.104
[SPEAKER_01]: And I definitely knew that when I got that invitation, it was something that I wouldn't make that appointment if it was possible.

09:16.244 --> 09:16.605
[SPEAKER_01]: So,

09:16.585 --> 09:18.289
[SPEAKER_00]: And the major kids still special.

09:18.309 --> 09:18.830
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, I see.

09:18.970 --> 09:20.935
[SPEAKER_00]: Because I got the new coat and got the feeling.

09:20.955 --> 09:35.387
[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, you know, I knew how it was to get a new coat and you know even any kid that gets new school supplies, you know that confidence booster that you get at that first time of the school year, same thing during the holidays, when you get that new season that comes around and you have

09:35.367 --> 09:50.558
[SPEAKER_01]: A new pair of hats and gloves and a coat and you're not only being taken care of necessity wise because of course in the Midwest we get some cold winters, you know you've got kids on bus stops and with jackets on and when they need coats.

09:50.538 --> 09:55.903
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, so we know sometimes it's a choice for a kid and other time they pay the time to be the choice.

09:56.284 --> 10:00.668
[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes I like, I wish I had a coat and I was like, sometimes yeah, they just didn't have a coat.

10:00.688 --> 10:01.209
[SPEAKER_00]: They just didn't.

10:01.789 --> 10:05.933
[SPEAKER_01]: And so Johnson County, Chris has brought is about children first.

10:07.155 --> 10:18.486
[SPEAKER_01]: We do, of course, take care of them and come families, but we know that children didn't

10:18.466 --> 10:19.287
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, what am I trying to say?

10:19.307 --> 10:30.425
[SPEAKER_01]: Like the opportunity to say, no, I'm not like enough money, or no, I don't want that job, or maybe there's some wellness issues that come to play that they have challenges where their parents can't go to work.

10:30.445 --> 10:30.746
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.

10:30.766 --> 10:35.714
[SPEAKER_01]: And so they didn't have that opportunity to say, I didn't want to be in this situation.

10:35.774 --> 10:36.475
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.

10:36.455 --> 10:38.098
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but I still want to be warm.

10:38.138 --> 10:39.059
[SPEAKER_01]: I still want to be taking care of.

10:39.079 --> 10:43.205
[SPEAKER_01]: And I want to have that security of love and hope that we provide for the holidays.

10:43.366 --> 10:52.099
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's a huge blessing to be able to be part of that to know how it was as a client or what we call our guests at holiday shop.

10:52.880 --> 10:58.108
[SPEAKER_01]: And then also as a volunteer as well as a sponsor and of course now on the board as a president.

10:58.088 --> 11:16.283
[SPEAKER_01]: So, I pretty much gone probably through every scenario you could probably think of, even bringing and really in my husband to be part of the logistics team with the, you know, getting the warehouse together and all that other stuff that comes along with storing through the year.

11:16.263 --> 11:17.465
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a huge project.

11:17.485 --> 11:19.107
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a huge project.

11:19.227 --> 11:23.192
[SPEAKER_00]: And I know, um, I have a little story with Johnson County as well.

11:23.512 --> 11:24.313
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Chris this bureau.

11:24.353 --> 11:25.194
[SPEAKER_00]: We first moved here.

11:25.234 --> 11:28.719
[SPEAKER_00]: I have a son who's deaf not to stick, you know, that, but the audience may not know.

11:28.739 --> 11:30.802
[SPEAKER_00]: I have a son who's deaf not to stick.

11:30.822 --> 11:32.524
[SPEAKER_00]: He'll be 30 this year.

11:32.564 --> 11:39.773
[SPEAKER_00]: And, um, but when we first got here, that's how I found out about Johnson Chris, Chris, this bureau.

11:39.753 --> 11:51.091
[SPEAKER_00]: is, um, I got the letter as well, you know, because when you have, you know, the SSI and all of that kind of stuff, and I have a case manager for him to make sure that he gets everything he needs.

11:51.251 --> 11:54.155
[SPEAKER_00]: And at first, I was like, oh, I don't need this.

11:54.316 --> 11:55.638
[SPEAKER_00]: This is kind of like the prideful thing.

11:55.678 --> 11:55.898
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.

11:55.938 --> 11:57.120
[SPEAKER_00]: Like Kathy look.

11:57.100 --> 12:00.446
[SPEAKER_00]: you are taking the time to raise your son.

12:00.767 --> 12:06.278
[SPEAKER_00]: And then not only that, you have, um, I want to my son's came home married.

12:06.358 --> 12:08.262
[SPEAKER_00]: He was 18 and they got married really young.

12:08.682 --> 12:10.466
[SPEAKER_00]: And so they were living with us for a while.

12:10.546 --> 12:14.113
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like a lot of extra, and we had just moved.

12:14.093 --> 12:14.473
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

12:14.493 --> 12:16.215
[SPEAKER_00]: And so we were looking for an apartment.

12:16.235 --> 12:19.318
[SPEAKER_00]: We just moved, you know, it was just all the stuff at one time.

12:19.758 --> 12:26.224
[SPEAKER_00]: And I was just like, well, you know, I'm not so sure because I mean, I always think, well, there's other people who really need that help more than me.

12:26.724 --> 12:27.505
[SPEAKER_00]: And that is true.

12:27.565 --> 12:32.630
[SPEAKER_00]: There is a lot of people who need a way more help than me, but well, it's so great is it to someone.

12:32.650 --> 12:36.814
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even know who it was from Johnson County, Christmas spirit was like, we need you too.

12:37.454 --> 12:38.996
[SPEAKER_00]: And we have the help for that.

12:39.156 --> 12:40.637
[SPEAKER_00]: And they want to help you.

12:40.697 --> 12:41.738
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, too.

12:41.718 --> 12:51.851
[SPEAKER_00]: And because you're a parent of a special needs adult, and that is a burden we want to help carry.

12:52.392 --> 13:00.823
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think, you know, it took me a minute to say, so sometimes if you're thinking, well, somebody else has it worse than me, I want them to get more.

13:00.803 --> 13:23.048
[SPEAKER_01]: Don't always think so here's what I think about that and you can take this or you can leave it But so when I tell people because now my my husband Raymond and I we we do we are blessed in a situation where we Probably give a lot more than what some other people may give and people say oh we're going to do it too much or you're given too much or you can do other things with that

13:23.028 --> 13:26.513
[SPEAKER_01]: But what I tell them is these are my blessings.

13:27.154 --> 13:41.155
[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm giving you because it makes me not only feel good But it also I know the need is there But you're gonna mess with my blessings if you don't receive my gift right you know what I mean Like you're gonna you're going I'm going to be blessed

13:41.641 --> 13:56.140
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, multiple fold on that, and if you are a faithful person, you know what I'm talking about when you give something you will not only get what you've given, but even more, because it comes real place of love and not just a checkmark, like I did that.

13:56.180 --> 13:56.601
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.

13:56.761 --> 13:57.081
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.

13:57.221 --> 13:57.962
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.

13:58.143 --> 14:02.288
[SPEAKER_01]: So when you when you receive, you're actually allowing somebody to have blessings.

14:02.628 --> 14:03.109
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.

14:03.089 --> 14:14.103
[SPEAKER_01]: So when we're on the receiving end just as I would be a giver, you need to know there's an integral part that everybody plays on receiving and giving blessings and you're part of them getting blessings.

14:14.684 --> 14:21.533
[SPEAKER_01]: So I tell people now I try to take the shame out of the game because there was a year where I did not.

14:22.594 --> 14:26.099
[SPEAKER_01]: I was working at the Kansas Chamber Commerce.

14:26.900 --> 14:28.742
[SPEAKER_01]: I was their

14:28.722 --> 14:37.584
[SPEAKER_01]: and went networking throughout the day around all different networks, probably about 100 people that day I met, and then later that day was my appointment after work.

14:38.406 --> 14:42.596
[SPEAKER_01]: And so I went and I saw a group of people that I actually had seen earlier that day.

14:42.657 --> 14:45.263
[SPEAKER_01]: And I was so embarrassed.

14:45.243 --> 14:47.907
[SPEAKER_01]: And it was the shame, the pride, right?

14:48.288 --> 15:03.170
[SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, you go through your day thinking you've got all together and people don't know what's really going on in finances or your home life or whatever's going on and so the next year I didn't accept my invitation to Johnson County Christmas Bureau.

15:03.551 --> 15:04.012
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.

15:04.032 --> 15:09.580
[SPEAKER_01]: And my kids did not deserve that because they were really good kids and they didn't get Christmas that year from me.

15:09.560 --> 15:10.281
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, wow.

15:10.461 --> 15:14.928
[SPEAKER_01]: And so what I try to tell people is put the shame aside.

15:15.329 --> 15:18.053
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not everybody needs a little hand up sometimes.

15:18.694 --> 15:21.879
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you can be that person, just know you're blessing that person that's giving it to you.

15:22.560 --> 15:34.157
[SPEAKER_01]: So, and when you get a chance, if you are taking that blessing and enjoying it and appreciating it, then hopefully in turn, you'll be able to give it back somebody else's all about paying it forward later.

15:34.257 --> 15:34.858
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.

15:34.838 --> 15:48.146
[SPEAKER_01]: So I just let people know it's get rid of that shame, there's no shame in this game at all, there's completely love, there are so many, there's over 3500 volunteers that go through that nine-day shop and help over 13,000 people.

15:48.828 --> 15:54.720
[SPEAKER_01]: So if you think that, oh, they don't need my help, or oh, I can't do very much.

15:54.700 --> 15:56.324
[SPEAKER_01]: It's all neighbors helping neighbors.

15:56.444 --> 15:57.546
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not government funded.

15:57.566 --> 16:01.715
[SPEAKER_01]: It's completely just Johnson County community and beyond.

16:01.755 --> 16:09.773
[SPEAKER_01]: There's even, you know, people in KCMO and Lisa Mid and all these other cities that come and help the neighbors of Johnson County who have.

16:09.753 --> 16:14.360
[SPEAKER_01]: basically kind of been a hidden secret.

16:14.621 --> 16:19.288
[SPEAKER_01]: People don't think of Johnson County's having a knee, you know, residents.

16:19.308 --> 16:25.458
[SPEAKER_01]: And so what I would remind people is that every neighborhood has needs help in your own backyard.

16:26.059 --> 16:31.187
[SPEAKER_01]: So although we live in Johnson County, which is one of the richest counties in Kansas.

16:31.167 --> 16:45.095
[SPEAKER_01]: We know that there's a lot of neighbors that go across the state line and help those urban or areas that they feel like that need more help, but there are people right here, your neighbors, even, and maybe even your co-workers that need help as well.

16:45.275 --> 16:46.558
[SPEAKER_01]: So just don't forget that.

16:48.241 --> 16:51.928
[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, that's basically what my goal is, is just really to get out in the community.

16:52.069 --> 16:52.770
[SPEAKER_01]: And

16:52.750 --> 17:03.308
[SPEAKER_01]: fundraise and explain to them about the awareness of, um, um, you know, food and security, um, neighbor's meeting help.

17:03.328 --> 17:08.076
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think that's important that we bring that out, you know, not to feel ashamed.

17:08.056 --> 17:24.968
[SPEAKER_00]: because I mean we all know and especially in this season this year there's a lot more people people that have been laid off you know people that are furloughed right now so it's causing a lot more need there one right and two don't be ashamed if you need to come.

17:24.948 --> 17:27.633
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and so let's talk about that a little bit.

17:27.753 --> 17:33.623
[SPEAKER_00]: How do how does someone get introduced or if they're needing help if they're needing help first.

17:33.643 --> 17:35.285
[SPEAKER_01]: So we are almost full.

17:35.305 --> 17:41.075
[SPEAKER_01]: So if you need help, you definitely want to get on as soon as possible and go to jccb.org.

17:41.416 --> 17:41.516
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.

17:41.536 --> 17:45.262
[SPEAKER_01]: There is an apply to shop button right at the top main header.

17:45.723 --> 17:46.204
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.

17:46.264 --> 17:46.905
[SPEAKER_01]: You'll want to apply.

17:46.885 --> 18:01.364
[SPEAKER_01]: fly on that platform and get into our client services to review your application and to make sure that there's enough room and space on our application because last year we had almost 14,000 people RSVP.

18:01.905 --> 18:05.009
[SPEAKER_01]: We had some people that did not, we're not able to come.

18:05.049 --> 18:10.756
[SPEAKER_01]: So it washed out okay, but we have to cut it off at a certain amount of people else.

18:10.776 --> 18:12.879
[SPEAKER_01]: We just, you'd be showing up and nothing would be there for you.

18:12.919 --> 18:15.002
[SPEAKER_01]: So that wouldn't be something you wouldn't have happened to you.

18:14.982 --> 18:20.690
[SPEAKER_01]: So make sure that you get on October 1st is when they do open up the application process.

18:20.871 --> 18:21.031
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.

18:21.452 --> 18:25.818
[SPEAKER_01]: Usually it isn't until mid November that we're even at this point.

18:26.459 --> 18:36.334
[SPEAKER_01]: And right now I know we're getting close to mid November, but I just saw an email saying from a couple of days ago that we were already almost full, so they will be cutting it off soon.

18:36.694 --> 18:39.558
[SPEAKER_00]: So the need is really great and really great this year.

18:39.578 --> 18:42.643
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you can imagine so from COVID to here.

18:42.623 --> 18:51.834
[SPEAKER_01]: They had to literally start all over again and go to the, you know, people, a lot of people weren't able to go back to their same jobs and have the same income.

18:52.575 --> 18:56.239
[SPEAKER_01]: So we had double the amount of people the year after.

18:56.279 --> 19:00.704
[SPEAKER_01]: And so people are understanding that there are resources out there now.

19:01.585 --> 19:11.517
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that they're now seeking them out a lot more aggressively than they are, than they were in the past.

19:11.497 --> 19:18.431
[SPEAKER_01]: Get your invitations scheduled as possible because even though you've gotten that invitation, it might fill up very, very quickly.

19:18.612 --> 19:18.752
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.

19:18.792 --> 19:18.992
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.

19:19.012 --> 19:19.674
[SPEAKER_00]: So okay.

19:19.814 --> 19:20.215
[SPEAKER_00]: Awesome.

19:20.295 --> 19:27.109
[SPEAKER_00]: And so what are some of the biggest needs this season as if you want to give or help?

19:27.089 --> 19:30.053
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're willing to help, we always need volunteers.

19:30.234 --> 19:38.325
[SPEAKER_01]: There is on that website, jccb.org, where you can volunteer at the festival of trees, or you can volunteer at the holiday shop.

19:38.766 --> 19:41.349
[SPEAKER_01]: If you just go to the volunteer tab, there's a link for both of them there.

19:42.090 --> 19:46.857
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're wanting to donate items, a lot of people are messaging us and saying, they want to give us coats.

19:47.398 --> 19:51.544
[SPEAKER_01]: We do ask for new coats, but if they are gently used and washed,

19:51.524 --> 20:01.060
[SPEAKER_01]: We don't have the money to wash coats, so if anybody knows any dry clearance or anything that they want to donate their services, let me know, contact me, I will graciously accept that.

20:02.122 --> 20:06.509
[SPEAKER_01]: But really, we're looking for new items to give out the guests.

20:07.972 --> 20:12.019
[SPEAKER_01]: So coats, mainly toddler coats, a lot of toddler coats are needed.

20:13.121 --> 20:16.907
[SPEAKER_01]: Boys coats for some reason, there's not ever enough boys coats.

20:16.887 --> 20:20.595
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why, but maybe they don't know.

20:20.996 --> 20:23.863
[SPEAKER_01]: And we do have a library where people can donate books.

20:23.903 --> 20:28.573
[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're wanting to donate some gently-used books, or even if they've been loved, bring those books to us.

20:29.054 --> 20:30.979
[SPEAKER_01]: We are in the same location this year.

20:31.199 --> 20:32.061
[SPEAKER_01]: And I want to certainly

20:32.041 --> 20:33.665
[SPEAKER_01]: promote that address out, right?

20:33.685 --> 20:36.853
[SPEAKER_01]: They want to apply them when likely to get that address through there.

20:37.455 --> 20:41.725
[SPEAKER_01]: But we are looking for food donations, non-perishable.

20:41.785 --> 20:49.645
[SPEAKER_01]: We even get items from harvesters that is like fresh vegetables and proteins and turkeys and things like that.

20:49.625 --> 21:15.396
[SPEAKER_01]: So if you have access to somebody that gives away frozen turkeys or frozen hamburger or chicken We accept that as well because we have freezers there waiting for that to be okay as well Awesome, I don't know yeah any any personal care items toothbrushes laundry detergent deodorant Themin hygiene products diverse those things can't be bought by food stamps no so if you are currently receiving food stamps

21:15.376 --> 21:20.463
[SPEAKER_01]: You know how valuable toilet paper is actually all the little all the things.

21:21.585 --> 21:23.688
[SPEAKER_00]: You don't even think about two things, all that stuff.

21:23.768 --> 21:26.732
[SPEAKER_01]: And every month, the woman needs those phone hygiene products.

21:26.952 --> 21:27.233
[SPEAKER_00]: We do.

21:27.253 --> 21:28.054
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

21:28.074 --> 21:29.035
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

21:29.156 --> 21:30.818
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's awesome.

21:30.838 --> 21:31.539
[SPEAKER_00]: That's awesome.

21:31.599 --> 21:31.980
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm glad.

21:32.000 --> 21:33.862
[SPEAKER_00]: So you said J.C. Jamie.

21:34.463 --> 21:35.364
[SPEAKER_00]: D.C.C.P.

21:35.384 --> 21:35.865
[SPEAKER_00]: org.

21:35.845 --> 21:36.706
[SPEAKER_00]: That's awesome.

21:36.786 --> 21:37.787
[SPEAKER_00]: And tell us a little bit.

21:37.928 --> 21:39.770
[SPEAKER_00]: So what is festival of the trees?

21:39.890 --> 21:40.951
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what it doesn't know.

21:41.011 --> 21:45.777
[SPEAKER_01]: Festival of trees is in conjunction with the holiday boutique at the Overland Park Convention Center.

21:46.017 --> 21:46.278
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.

21:46.418 --> 21:49.862
[SPEAKER_01]: And that happens the weekend before Thanksgiving every year.

21:50.142 --> 21:50.403
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.

21:50.643 --> 21:55.269
[SPEAKER_01]: And so we are the cherry partner with that event.

21:55.409 --> 21:58.933
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a huge event that's about a four day, not about four and a half day.

21:58.913 --> 22:05.840
[SPEAKER_01]: event, and it's about 40,000 people go through the doors, about 10,000 people a day, go through the doors.

22:06.120 --> 22:06.520
[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.

22:06.540 --> 22:18.672
[SPEAKER_01]: And so it's a huge expo for anything shopping, anything holiday, you name it, and probably sure it sold their fun earrings, the shirts, sweatshirts, gifts, unique gifts.

22:19.373 --> 22:21.615
[SPEAKER_01]: And so, women love to shop.

22:21.755 --> 22:22.896
[SPEAKER_01]: And so, that's right.

22:22.996 --> 22:25.399
[SPEAKER_01]: It gets us through the doors when you have it all in one spot.

22:25.419 --> 22:28.802
[SPEAKER_01]: We don't have to go to 10 different malls to get the things that you want to have unique.

22:28.782 --> 22:45.930
[SPEAKER_01]: So we are on the first level of that, so when you walk in the first level, you'll get an opportunity to go through and shop the trees that are fully decorated in different themes with our designers and so you can bid you can basically register to bid.

22:45.910 --> 22:48.353
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's an online thing, you don't even have to be there.

22:48.373 --> 22:52.499
[SPEAKER_01]: I've actually personally bought trees and never even seen them before in person.

22:53.080 --> 22:56.965
[SPEAKER_01]: But little pictures about the size of two inches is what I saw.

22:57.406 --> 23:01.652
[SPEAKER_01]: But you can actually bid on the trees throughout the weekend and on Sunday after 4 o'clock.

23:01.872 --> 23:03.214
[SPEAKER_01]: You'll be able to find it if you're the winner.

23:03.414 --> 23:04.997
[SPEAKER_01]: And then you can take those items home.

23:05.557 --> 23:06.839
[SPEAKER_01]: So you get to bid on them.

23:07.440 --> 23:11.766
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a silent auction back and forth, whoever ends up with the highest bid wins.

23:11.746 --> 23:13.889
[SPEAKER_00]: That's awesome and all that money.

23:13.949 --> 23:15.191
[SPEAKER_01]: All this fun.

23:15.271 --> 23:16.312
[SPEAKER_01]: Go to Johnson County.

23:16.472 --> 23:17.053
[SPEAKER_01]: Christmas Bureau.

23:17.073 --> 23:17.314
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.

23:17.394 --> 23:18.175
[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.

23:18.195 --> 23:18.535
[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.

23:18.555 --> 23:19.356
[SPEAKER_00]: And that makes it fun.

23:19.497 --> 23:21.259
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a fun way of giving too.

23:21.279 --> 23:21.559
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

23:21.580 --> 23:22.441
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a fun way.

23:22.561 --> 23:24.303
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, because everybody likes a good battle.

23:24.363 --> 23:25.865
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see if they can win.

23:25.885 --> 23:29.330
[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, we do give about a million dollars worth of goods at the holiday shop.

23:29.350 --> 23:29.831
[SPEAKER_00]: I was.

23:29.851 --> 23:33.336
[SPEAKER_01]: So that last year made about $40,000 of it.

23:33.936 --> 23:35.779
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's a huge chunk.

23:35.759 --> 23:44.130
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we have a lot of hands-on deck for this event and if you want to volunteer You do get a free holiday.

23:44.150 --> 23:49.357
[SPEAKER_01]: We take ticket when you come and volunteer So then that allows you to go shop and I think that's about an $18 value.

23:49.737 --> 23:54.724
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and then shopping with small business is super important Yeah, you know it helps families.

23:55.024 --> 23:55.425
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, of course.

23:55.445 --> 24:01.733
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you know, that's the one way I was able to stay home with my kids was doing always some kind of small business endeavor

24:01.713 --> 24:03.255
[SPEAKER_00]: And I know that helps you too.

24:03.855 --> 24:03.936
[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.

24:03.956 --> 24:14.127
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, no matter what it was, if it was baking bread or, you know, you know, selling makeup or whatever it was, all the things, all the things, all the things, whatever it took.

24:14.247 --> 24:16.470
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what we did to make sure our kids have Christmas.

24:16.690 --> 24:18.592
[SPEAKER_00]: And so, come shop local.

24:18.672 --> 24:19.413
[SPEAKER_00]: That's awesome.

24:19.614 --> 24:27.122
[SPEAKER_00]: And if you're able to volunteer, make sure you look that up and if you're needing help, hurry and get in.

24:27.342 --> 24:27.923
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.

24:27.903 --> 24:33.212
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so glad you came and took, oh, I know you're busy because you're running, I mean, this is the busy season.

24:33.232 --> 24:36.757
[SPEAKER_00]: You took, you took time to come in and we appreciate you joining us today.

24:36.777 --> 24:40.123
[SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate the invite from you because I know that we've been wanting to connect and do something like this.

24:40.183 --> 24:43.348
[SPEAKER_01]: And I was honored that you asked.

24:43.668 --> 24:44.349
[SPEAKER_00]: So thank you.

24:44.370 --> 24:44.450
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.

24:44.830 --> 24:46.353
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we want to make sure everybody knows.

24:46.573 --> 24:49.037
[SPEAKER_00]: And knows that, you know, Johnson County has needs.

24:49.057 --> 24:49.858
[SPEAKER_00]: They have needs, too.

24:50.499 --> 24:52.763
[SPEAKER_00]: And so let's help this year.

24:52.743 --> 24:56.949
[SPEAKER_01]: And we do have on our jccb.org backslash donate.
